Sceala Irish Craic Forum Discussion:     Alan Shatter calls Derry the British unionist (London)Derry.

Wed Jun 13, 2012

Why is a Minister of the Republic of Ireland referring to Derry as the British Colonial name of London Derry ?
Is this Alan Shatter guy a British Unionist and partitionist like Conor Cruise O'Brien

The day after Alan Shatter enacts a blanket pardon for all deserters from the Irish defense forces to the British army.
Alan Shatter now calls Derry the British unionist (London)Derry.
This Alan Shatter guy is supposed to be the Irish minister for national defense! In any other nation a similar gaffe by a Defense politicians would see that politician forced to resign.

Now it seems the Justice Minister is of the opinion that Derry is ‘London derry’.

Alan Shatter, Minister for Justice and Equality and Minister for Defence has being putting through legislation today to extend the anti-terrorist powers under the Offences Against the State Act.

The powers were initiated after the Real IRA Omagh bombing in 1998.

And the Dáil Minister Shatter was outlining some of the reasons why they should still apply.

Alan Shatter referenced - two pipe bombs set off in London derry on 19 January 2012.

Another example of Alan Shatter more concerned with the sensitivities of the British, than the Irish who pay his inflated salary.
Alan Shatter insults Irish Citizens that he is supposed to represent. Shatter should be dismissed.
His gaffe suggests he could be a British unionist. Shatter should be honest and go to the 6 counties and seek election, or to his Westminster idols.
