Bord Bia
Our mission is to grow the success of a world class food and horticulture industry by providing strategic market development, promotion and information services. Strategic Priorities cover
Our Role
The role of Bord Bia, the Irish Food Board, is to act as a link between Irish Food, Drink & Horticulture suppliers and existing and potential customers throughout the world. Our objective is to develop markets for Irish suppliers and to bring the taste of Irish food to more tables world-wide.
With its headquarters in Dublin, Bord Bia has a network of overseas offices in Amsterdam, Dusseldorf, London, Madrid, Milan, Moscow, New York, Paris and Shanghai.
The history of Bord Bia
1 December 1994: Bord Bia/Irish Food Board was established by an act of the Irish parliament (the Dáil). It brought together the former CBF (Coras Beostoic agus Feola - the Irish Meat and Livestock Board) and the food promotion activities of the Irish Trade Board, now part of Enterprise Ireland.
1 July 2004: Responsibility for the development of the horticultural industry in Ireland, which rested with the former Bord Glas, was integrated into Bord Bia.
1 June 2009: The responsibility for seafood promotion in domestic and international markets was transferred from BIM (Bord Iascaigh Mharaigh) to Bord Bia.
One of Bord Bia’s primary objectives in the domestic market is to promote products from quality approved suppliers in the retail sector. There has been considerable investment in broadening the scope of the Quality Assurance Programmes to encompass all elements of the supply chain and establishing the Bord Bia Quality Mark as a brand with national recognition.
A nationally representative survey indicates that 87% of shoppers are aware of the Quality Mark and the majority of these say that seeing the logo on meat would make them more likely to buy them. (Source: Behaviour and Attitudes, 2011).
The Bord Bia Quality Mark assures the consumer that the highest level of attention and care has been given to how the food they purchase is produced.
