Celtic have been reinstated in the Europa League after Uefa expelled Sion from the competition. Sion, who have three days to appeal the verdict.
SFA backing Celtic in Europa bid
Scottish Football Association president Campbell Ogilvie has pledged his organisation's backing to Celtic in their quest to be reinstated in the Europa League.
Ogilvie, in Glasgow to help make the draw for the first round of The William Hill Scottish Cup along with Hoops skipper Scott Brown, confirmed that Celtic had sought and received help from the SFA. He said: "Celtic made contact with the SFA, as any member club would do, and the SFA have been backing Celtic."
He added: "The case is being heard this week and as a governing body we would always back one of our clubs in one of these cases. If there is a breach of rules then UEFA will certainly take whatever sanctions necessary, but the SFA would certainly back a member club in this case.
"The nature of football now, with regulations and legalities, means it is quite a complex issue. I haven't been involved in the detail of it but it is quite evident that there are a lot of legal issues being addressed, but these will be heard this week I believe.
"The decision is for UEFA but if someone has breached regulations and has been proved to have breached regulations then obviously a sanction should be taken, but that's obviously outwith our remit."
Europa League - Platini: Celtic set for Europa reprieve, Sion Kicked out.
UEFA warns Sion it could lose Europa League place
What do you think are the chances of FC Sion getting kicked out the Europa League. Sion ignored a ban on signing new players and naming them in the squad and then playing them against Celtic.
Europa League - Platini: Celtic set for Europa reprieve
"It seems to me that Sion have completely broken the tranfer ban imposed on them and are in direct violation of the rules and Celtic could come back in,"
UEFA president Michel Platini told reporters ahead of the draw for the group stage.
"But we must wait and see what the outcome is, it is a legal issue that has to be resolved. But to me the issue seems clear and Sion have broken the terms of the ban."
Sion were banned after FIFA ruled the club was guilty of inducing Egypt goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary to break his contract with Cairo club Al Ahli in 2008.
Sion claim they have already served the ban but FIFA say it runs until the end of this year.
Sion had five players in their squad -- Feindouno, Mario Mutsch, Gabri, Jose Goncalves and Billy Ketkeophomphone -- who are, as far as the authorities are concerned, ineligible.
However, following a Swiss provinicial court's ruling, the squad was approved by the Swiss FA who, along with the club, have reportedly been warned by UEFA they could face more sanctions with Sion expelled from the competition.
Celtic FC Manager Neil Lennon revealed that a complaint had been lodged earlier in the week and had been followed up with a further complaint to UEFA’s match delegate prior to kick-off.
"We have sent in letters last week and handed one to the delegate," he said. "There is hearing on Tuesday and we will know the outcome after that.
"If clubs are breaking the rules then every club should break the rules."
Sion included five ineligible players against Celtic

Pascal Feindouno, Mario Mutsch, Gabri, Jose Goncalves and Billy Ketkeophomphone
Who were all in their squad for European competition despite FIFA ruling that the players should not be eligible due to a transfer embargo imposed.
The Swiss FA allowed the players to be registered after the club won a civil case in a domestic court but UEFA have warned of sanctions against the players, the club and the Swiss FA, saying the governing body must bear responsibility for verifying and approving the quintet’s eligibility.
The matter has been escalated to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and, should FIFA have their transfer ban upheld, possible sanctions against the parties involved would include the removal of Sion from European competition.
Sion have not just broken the UEFA rules, by fielding several ineligible players they have ignored and ridiculed UEFA.
If Sion can break the rules or ignore the rules like this, then every other club will be allowed to break the rules. UEFA would be finished as the governing body.
Sion are going to get kicked out, no other option will be left for EUFA, they can't have football clubs deciding the rules. UEFA can not allow Sion to name any player they want, or sign any player outside the rules.
Looks like Celtic will be back in the Europa League as the club that lost out to Sion cheating the rules.
At the very worst Celtic can take a legal suit against UEFA for lost revenues.
So it is a win win for Celtic.
Associated Press release
UEFA says Swiss club FC Sion faces being kicked out of the Europa League for fielding ineligible players when it beat Scotland's Celtic in the playoff round.
UEFA says Celtic has lodged official protests that Sion breached a one-year FIFA transfer ban, which was originally imposed in 2008 but took effect in January.
UEFA President Michel Platini says Sion fielded its offseason signings "in clear violation of the ban.''
Sion is included in Friday's group stage draw but Celtic could be reinstated.
UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino says its disciplinary committee will rule on Celtic's protest before the first match on Sept. 15.
First, UEFA is waiting for a Swiss civil court ruling on Sion's case.
Some people may suggest Celtic do not deserve to go through, on the contrary it is Sion who have broken the rules of the game and must not be allowed to get away with it.
Celtic could be handed a route back into the Europa League after UEFA president Michel Platini said that Sion were "in clear violation" of a ban on transfers and had used ineligible players in the competition.
Sion had registered five new signings in their squad. A FIFA ruling had banned them from all transfer activity for two transfer windows.
That ban has been in dispute and is set to be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport but Platini has said that UEFA will make a ruling on Sion's participation before their first group match on September 15.
"What is happening there is the rules have not been respected. FC Sion has not respected the rules of the transfer ban," Platini said. "They signed players and then played those players."
Sion have challenged the rulings made against them in a Swiss court but UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino said that was not relevant to footballing matters and confirmed that they could be ejected from the Europa League.
"The civil court ruling does not affect UEFA," Infantino insisted. "We will look at our rules and the FIFA rules. There is a ruling by FIFA, CAS have ruled, it went to the Swiss supreme court and everything was confirmed but it has been challenged again.
"It is an interpretation question which is complicated - whether a two transfer-window ban means two transfer windows or parts of several transfer windows.
"Sion will be in the draw but they can be subsequently excluded. The control and disciplinary body will make a decision certainly before the group stage starts."
If Sion are proven to have fielded an ineligible player following Celtic's protest, the automatic punishment under Article 14bis of UEFA's disciplinary regulations is a 3-0 forfeit.
The significant and relevant rule for the Europa League reads: "A match may be declared forfeit if a player who is ineligible under the regulations of the competition concerned participates in the match, as long as the opposing club files a protest."
We now await UEFA proper decision to kick FC Sion out Europa League, plus a hefty fine, and place Celtic FC back in the group stages of the Europa League.
