Sceala Irish Craic Forum Discussion:     What makes someone Irish. A definition of Irish nationality

Regarding being Irish. Quoting You stating
Being Irish is still real. There are two types of Irish. People who claim to be Irish and people who are genuinely Irish.
To be genuinely Irish your Family must be 100% Irish. Any mix then you are a mix. Nothing wrong with that, maybe healthier, but you are not a genuine Irish person and can never be.
There is only one exception, you can be born abroad and be Irish, but only if all your family are Irish and of Irish ancestry.
Like a pedigree cat or dog, it is either pedigree or it isn't.

A legal definition of Irish nationality
As far as I understand the Irish citizenship laws at present.
Being born in Ireland does not automatically make you Irish, you will not automatically be allowed a Irish—Passport or Irish—Citizenship.
Not sure on the absolute criteria needed for Irish citizenship, I believe there are some rules about parents and grandparents. I think you need to have a Grandparent who was born in Ireland.
Not sure the birth can be anywhere in Ireland, or just the Republic of Ireland. Is the north of Ireland included.
Can you confirm.
What are everyone's thoughts on this, what makes someone Irish.
