Those who want to see the end of Fianna Fail must hope that ...somehow ...Eamon O'Cuiv manages to win. If any figure epitomizes this Government's incoherent irrelevance and incompetence ....it is Eamonn O Cuiv.
If any figure epitomizes the incestuous nature of Irish parish pump politics ....it is Eamonn O Cuiv.

Can there be a more incoherent and out of touch politician anywhere in Ireland?

Possibly yes ...it could be another candidate for leader of Fianna Fail ....Brian Lenihan ...a man who made arrogant mistake after mistake as current Finance Minister.
A arrogant man who claimed in 2008 ... that his decisions and actions ...his bank guarantee scheme ....would prove "a necessary first step" and "the cheapest bailout in the world so far".
As we are all too well aware ....Lenihan's actions in effect ....sadly proved to be the most costliest bailout in the world so far.
Brian Lenihan has yet to apologize to the Irish nation for his actions or misleading claims.

Political Ireland needs effective opposition.
Some direct causes of more recent Irish political abuses of power ....most of our financial problems ..... relate to the hindsight fact that we lacked ...any effective and credible opposition.
As a direct consequence and most concerning for all of us ....Enda Kenny literally has it all to prove in Office ....Kenny is set to become Taoiseach by system default ..not via any of his known charms ...political genius or any communication offensive.

Those of us who wish to see a healthy opposition ...are desperately hoping that almost any but the above wins the Leadership of Fianna Fail ...and then has a clear out of old and rotten wood.
Mary Hanafin and Michael Martin ...at the very least ....they both have some obvious communication skills ...with some credibility left. Compared to the other two Fianna Fail candidates ....Hanafin and Martin appear as all knowing political genius ....masters of the universe.
Ireland can not afford another decade with no effective political opposition.
Irish Politics must learn from the mistakes of the recent past.
Do we have a choice ....can we...should we trust Sinn Fein and the fringe to guard common sense and the middle ground.
