One of the O'Connor Clan is a new world rugby legend. Shame he is not a Irish born O'Connor. This new kid on the block is James O'Connor of Australia and the Irish diaspora.
Rare you see a player this size - with this much physical power.
As he pushes aside and through several All Blacks, you would never guess that he is only 20 years old.
James O'Connor born 5 July 1990 Gold Coast, Queensland is an Australian rugby union footballer currently with the Western Force Super 14 team.
Career
O'Connor is an Australian rugby union player who usually plays at inside centre or fly-half, although his debut for Australia against Italy in 2008 was at fullback. In an international against Italy on the 13th of June 2009, O'Connor started at fullback, and scored three tries. In 2006, James was lucky to live after his spleen ruptured. In October 2009, O'Connor was named 2009 rookie of the year at the John Eales medal awards night. In the 2010 Tri Nations Series O'Conner was the top try scorer together with Mils Muliaina.
Eligibility
O'Connor was eligible for all three Tri Nations teams because of his New Zealand father and South African mother. He was a Parramatta Eels rugby league junior in Sydney before switching to rugby union at 15. On his starting debut for Australia against Italy on June the 13th 2009, James scored three tries for his nation, helping them to a 31-8 victory.
James O'Connor was one of eight athletes selected to compete in the season of Australia's Greatest Athlete broadcast on Channel Seven in February 2010 in which he came third.
