Sceala Irish Craic Forum Discussion:     Northern Ireland and the Irish abroad

We in Ireland believe that the views of the Irish abroad is usually totally out of touch, about Ireland and the Irish. It seems to us living in Ireland, that most Irish abroad have some very strange ideas about Ireland.
We all know the type, they have been to Ireland on a weeks holiday and now act as if they are Irish, and know Ireland as home. The saddest of them working in political cliche or stereotype phrases just too often, and always in a pathetic attempt to appear informed.
Where else in the world would these people go on a holiday, even several times, and then pretend they were natives?
Most of us will say that it is the Irish Americans who are the most naive about Ireland, but it is not just them. I have experienced the extremes from people in England and some in Scotland. Most of them are just as totally out of touch about Ireland as any Irish American stereotype. The worst of all are thosee English who are possessed with the north of Ireland _ they have not got a clue about the Irish, all they know and want to know is the extremes.
It would be like us thinking that all English were as thick and ugly as the ones on the Jeremy Kyle Show.
We all know that is not true because some English are not that thick.
I notice there are some people on here who do not live in Ireland, people who were not even educated in Ireland. Lived all their lives in Britain, but write as if they live here and are Irish. What is that about? if you described that thinking to a Doctor they would conclude a form of mental illness.
If those who claim to be Irish and wannabe Irish who live abroad are genuine and so caring! Then why are they not living in Ireland, and not Scotland or England. These people are fantasists living in cloud cuckoo land.
At least the Irish American and out of EU may have a excuse, they may not be legally allowed to just come and live here.

Look over the Internet on chat rooms like this, it becomes very clear that most of the Irish abroad, have no idea what Ireland is really like.
There are so many chat rooms dedicated to Northern Ireland.
Why are the Irish abroad, the diaspora, still going on and on about Northern Ireland? Why do they believe Northern Ireland deserves special attention? They must believe that terrible violence and murders only happen in Northern Ireland. Where do they get these ideas from.
News flash for the Irish abroad.
If anywhere in today's Ireland needs special envoys from America, it is here in the south, the Republic of Ireland.
For many years now, the Republic of Ireland has witnessed many more murders of innocent people, and many more gangland killings than Northern Ireland.
These ideas about Ireland are almost as stupid as the non-Irish, usually English - who think we are all mad for religion. Most Irish could not care less what religion you are, or if you have no religion what so ever.
Go to any church and they are full of old people afraid of dying. Most young Irish people have lost the automatic connection with religion, any religion.
