The Irish and love

St Valentine's day has past upon us.
Combined with a thought from another post ...I was reflecting upon love ....the love I feel and show for my wife ...how fortunate I am to know her ...to love her and to feel loved by her.
I thought of the profound love between my parents ...a love shown in tender care and consideration for each other ..every day ...not just St Valentine's day. I know that as a child ...I never gave their love much consideration ....their love as natural as the sunrise ...a constant even presence ...was taken for granted ..to be there for us all every day.
Now with a wife and family of my own ...I know more of the value of acquired love ...I realise the true constants ....the efforts and considerations involved. I can now appreciate more about my parents love ... I know just how lucky their children are ... to have had these two people meet in life ..and then fall in love with each other ...to want us and to care for us ....primarily through love.
It is through my parents love that I understand some of the power of love ...a love that made their children ....feel a bond and feel secure ...a love that had so many positive side effects ...not the least of which was ...imparting to their children the ability to know what love can be ...to be able to show and share love with others.
In the new Ireland of opportunity and wealth ....where around half of all marriages part long before death ...where the bond from parents to children has become diluted by so many possible's .... it takes little imagination ....to know how complicated love has now become ...and just how important love is.
Thinking more generally on the Irish and love ...how do you consider we rate ...do you think we are a particularly loving people ....a romantic race by nature. ....do you think we are better or worse than most at knowing ...what love is.
