One of the hottest comediennes in ireland, katherine's new series is class.
Katherine Lynch headlines a new comedy slot unveiling new and up-and-coming talent on RTE Two - her three-parter is called Katherine Lynch's Working Girls. Be warned. She's more than a bit on the bawdy side!
Who Are Ya?
"I'm from Mohill, County Leitrim and I'm a granddaughter of (the poet) Patrick Kavanagh. I started in comedy after winning the Alternative Miss Ireland a few years ago. Following in the footsteps of many female comedians I came up through the gay scene. I have been nurtured by drag queens."
What's the story?
"Katherine Lynch's Working Girls is a three-part series about three different characters: Singin' Bernie Walsh, who wants to be a country 'n' western star; Sheila Sheik, a girl from Tallaght who married an Egyptian and does everything through the medium of bellydancing; and Busty Lycra, an 80-foot supermodel who has to come home from LA because she's got a veruka on her foot, and tries rebuild her career and get involved in the porn industry.
"The series is basically a hybrid, combining sketch scenes and interaction with the public. I had great craic walking down Thomas Street in Dublin dressed as Busty Lycra, people were stopping me in the street, wondering who I was and some of them thought I was Mr Pussy!"
What about this Bernie one?
"She's flogged her horse and is trying to get into the country 'n' western scene. She's made an album called Friends in Hi Aces with songs such as Start Packin' the Van (Dundalk, Dundalk), My Van and Stand By Your Van. She's my favourite character as she's a complete and utter survivor.
"One of the highlights for her is going to the Meteor music Awards and getting to talk to loads of stars and have a laugh. I have to say that Ronan Keating was very sweet and an absolute gent. Bernie also gets to meet up with Charlie Pride, who's a real legend of the country scene. She even gets him to sing along with the chorus of My Van."
