Paisley Wins Sexual Discrimination Apology From The DUP

A daughter of the DUP leader, Ian Paisley, who took legal action against her father and his fellow party officers alleging sex discrimination over a job application, has won an apology.

Ian Paisley's daughter Rhonda has won an apology from the DUP after she launched a sex discrimination case against the party. Rhonda Paisley filed her suit after she failed to secure a job as policy officer in 2004. There was an court settlement, and an agreed statement was issued by the DUP and Ms Paisley.

The party accepted its recruitment procedures were deficient and apologised for any distress caused and regretting "the way the issues had been handled". The Equality Commission confirmed that Ms Paisley had withdrawn her application for assistance and added that her complaint to the Industrial Tribunal had also been withdrawn.

Rhonda Paisley is a former DUP councillor and ex-Lady Mayoress of Belfast. In recent years she has shunned the political limelight to concentrate on her career as an artist. Rhonda Paisley had previously taken a fair employment case against the Arts Council for the north of Ireland, alleging religious discrimination, which she won in court.
