THE IRISH WEDDING

The crowd came in on buses
Dressed in their finery
The weest ones in long dresses
Sunday mornin' best on a Thursday, ye see

Saturdays weddin's are fadin' into the past
Too expensive here I was told when asked
Gone the days of the fiddler and the parish priest
'Tis a DJ, expensive hotels and a justice of the peace

Suppose holy blessin's still are around
But the divorce rate's runnin' them into the ground
Still, a weddin' is a weddin'
And an Irish one is where I am headin'

Though not a guest
A peek I had
And t'was so pretty
All the hearts so glad...

Pretty fair haired gaelic children
Chubby faced, blushes of innocence
Racin' through their childhood
Goin' while the goin's good
Lookin' towards their own weddin' day
Though in the future a way aways

Old men, young men
Pretty lasses
Over dressed old ladies
All with Guinesses or
Bright drinks in their glasses

The bride and groom
Arrived at last
In a stretch white limo
Oh what style and class

How lovely a weddin'
Though not so traditional
A celebration is a celebration
When love is unconditional

Good luck to the couple
I just want to say
On their lovely
Irish weddin' day...
