Good news for Irish soccer fans.
Ciaran Clark determined to make mark with Republic of Ireland
Well done to Ciaran, he could choose to play for England if he wanted, but he claims his rightful Irish identity and heritage as foremost.
A real confidence boost for the millions of Irish in Britain and one in the eye for those racists who like to mock the Irish identity, promoting overt racist terms such as plastic paddy.
Time for Irish people to no longer encourage or tolerate any more anti Irish racism.
No more Paddy jokes or any kind from the british of any kind, they are not light hearted or meant in friendly banter, they are always mean spirited and extremely ignorant in root.
We would not alllow such abuse of any other immigrants, yet we are encouraged by the likes of TV3 to ridicule the children of Irish emigrants.
That pretentious little twit Mark Cagney was reported as encouraging Ireland born Kieran Bracken (to Irish parents) the England rugby player, to assist him ridicule the Irish emigrants, by saying "you were not a plastic paddy then".
TV3 as we all know is little watched British lite gutter media.
But shame on tv3 and little man cagney
National and cultural respect has to work both ways.
Just as a minority of People in Ireland who say they are British, should be respected, even if most have no actual evidence of any ancestral connection to Britain.
Then so should anyone Irish in Britain.
Respect works both ways or not at all.
Those anti Irish racist days, days that were even tolerated if not promoted by BBC and even sometimes RTE, need to be stopped.
Irish people everywhere should stop encouraging any anti Irish racism.
RTE is not always perfect when it comes to promoting anti Irish racism.
How ignorant of RTE to remotely encourage the notion that people born out of Ireland are not Irish.
What then James Connolly or Tom Clarke.
As was quoted with reference on this Irish forums about the descendants of the Irish diaspora in Britain
There are at least ten times the number of credible Irish blood in Britain than there are those with even supposed English or British blood in Ireland.
Yet the twisted racist and bias media controlled or influenced from London, has encouraged ignorant people to mock the Irish in Britain, made them comedy material as plastic paddys.
At the same this anti Irish media has promoted these bitter anti Irish attacks, they have instructed / told people to automatically respect, without question, all those in the North of Ireland, who say they are British!
How anti Irish and racist and bias and selectively ignorant this British led media is.
We are told to automatically respect people in Ireland who claim they are British. Claims that are often based upon the sketchy and often dubious supposed family history of people from hundreds of years ago.
Yet we are encouraged by this media to think of the children of even first generation Irish born abroad, especially in Britain, as somehow not really Irish.
No more , no way!
Kevin Kilbane, who is the son of Irish emigrant parents, was being quized on the RTE late late show by Tubridy, Kilbane was asked to explain his Irish heritage.
Would tubridy or RTE even dare ask someone from the North of Ireland why they even feel British. Would RTE dare ask any of these people from the North, who are generally basing their identity on nothing but the ignorant sectarian myths of history. Most of these so called British can not even prove they have any connection to Britain.
But we are told by BBC and their partner RTE, to respect their identity based upon myths.
Most Irish people are only too willing to respect others and their national identity and culture as long as respect is mutual.
We even respect those who have no way of proving they are of British heritage, as most in the north of Ireland who claim to be British can not do!
We Irish are like this not just because of our own history of being abused, especially from the island of Britain, but because most of us do not want to be associated with how British Orange bigotry in Ireland has generally behaved in Ireland.
Look at this anti Irish and supposed 'british' orange man for example
rte report about Ciaran Clark choosing The Republic of Ireland
rte.ie/sport/soccer/international/2012/1223/360186-clark-determined-to-make-ireland-mark/
Aston Villa central defender Ciaran Clark has reiterated his commitment and desire to play for the Republic of Ireland.
Clark, who has skippered Villa in recent matches, started Ireland's friendly international with Greece last month.
He is still eligible to play for England whom he represented at under-17 and under-18 level, as he has not played in a competitive match for Giovanni Trappatoni's team.
But Clark is still determined to play for the country of the birth of his parents.
He said: "It was nice to get the game last time, a friendly. All I can do is keep trying to play well here at Villa and hopefully I'll be in the back of their minds with Ireland.
"Wes Hoolahan was in as well against Greece and a couple of other lads were picked as well. It does give the other players hope now they might get a chance in the up and coming fixtures.
"I was regular for England Under-17, Under-18s, at the start of my career, but it's moved on now.
"I know there are a couple of friendly internationals leading up to the World Cup qualifiers and I've got to see what happens with that.
"Would I go back to England? No chance of that, not at all."
Clark, 23, has relished being Villa captain in the absence of the injured Ron Vlaar and admits skippering several of the players at youth level has made the role easier.
He said: "At the start of the season I never imagined I would be captain now. When a new manager comes in, you just want to try to get a place in the team first and foremost.
"That was my only goal and I've managed to play a number of games which has been a massive bonus for me.
"I captained at reserve and youth-team levels. I am vocal on the pitch. I do like to bark the orders out. It is just passing on info really, getting everyone communicating.
"It is maybe easier to communicate with lads you've played with for a while. The older lads are a lot more experienced and know what they should be doing anyway."
Current first-team players such as Clark, Nathan Baker and Chris Herd all graduated through the academy ranks at Villa.
Clark said: "It is good because we've come through the youth team, even younger than that, right through since the under-18s and reserves.
"We've won youth team and reserve leagues so we are all good mates and all know each other's games really well so that can only be good."
This decision by Ciaran Clark, by such a talented player who would be picked by any national team,
A real encuragement for children born abroad to be proud of their Irish heritrage and identity, and not ashamed of it as was the hope of the anti Irish racists.
Such a handsome man, Ireland will have the best and best looking soccer football players in Europe.
