Sceala Irish Craic Forum Discussion:     License Septic tanks. Inspections of Septic tanks

The proposed License and inspections of Septic tanks in Ireland is being forced through by EU directives. Another example of the over paid and unaccountable EU Ministers telling us how to live.
Unworkable and costly laws made by EU Ministers with little or no concept in reality of rural life anywhere. Ministers who could not care less how their actions effect Irish people. The financial burden for their ideas, the burden of paying for inspections of their ideas on septic tanks, will be the rural poor.
When they can't afford to pay the state revenues will have to pick up the bill.
So we are all going to pay for this, one way or another.

Probably overpaid EU Ministers studying American ideas - on expenses, not knowing they do not work.

Evers Files Bill To Repeal Septic Tank Inspection Law
August 31, 2011
State Sen. Greg Evers is making another attempt to have Florida’s tank inspection law repealed.
Ever’s announced Tuesday that he has filed SB 114 to eliminate a law passed in 2010 that requires the Florida Department of Health to create and administer a statewide septic tank evaluation program that would see every tank inspected every five years. Evers said repealing the law would reduce the unnecessary and expensive burden placed on residents, particularly in rural areas of the state, who would be held responsible for financing the inspections and repairs.

RALEIGH - Wake County health and environmental officials have decided to put off for nine months the strict new regulations for septic tanks that were adopted just this year.
The rules, passed by the county human services and environmental services board in January, had received criticism from county commissioners for requiring annual inspections of the 60,000 septic tanks in Wake County.
The city of Raleigh and environmentalists have argued that the regulations are necessary to protect the water supply and public health. They note that about 10 percent of septic tanks fail each year, allowing 1.2 million gallons of untreated waste to escape daily during rainy periods.
But in a March work session, the county commissioners spent an hour and 45 minutes closely questioning county environmental director Tommy Esqueda and others about the necessity for the new regulations.
"Chairman (Paul) Coble asked why Health and Human Services has determined there is a greater need now for more regulation,"

EU warns over poorly managed septic tanks
The European Commission has warned that poorly managed or controlled septic tanks may cause significant harm to the environment and human health.
The European Commission has said that geological and soil conditions in many parts of Ireland may make it difficult for septic tanks to function without causing pollution.
The Dublin office of the EU issued a statement this afternoon that sought to clarify what it said were a number of points that have arisen in media reports.
The Commission said Ireland had not yet implemented EU legislation to monitor the 400,000 septic tanks throughout the country.
It warned that poorly managed or controlled septic tanks may cause significant harm to the environment and human health.
The septic tank issue has been controversial, particularly in the west of Ireland.
Over the weekend, Fianna Fáil deputy leader Éamon Ó Cuív said he would go to jail rather than pay the proposed new charges for the inspection and maintenance of septic tanks.
It is also estimated that 9,000 people in the Dublin area may have to pay the charge.
A public meeting on the issue is to be held in Balbriggan later this week.
No one knows the state of septic tanks in Ireland. They work because we are not currently over populated.
Irish septic tanks are often based on the very basic principle.

Personal experience of the North American septic tank showed me that we were behind the basic Green science to start.

The EU have opened a can here, if Ireland is in their view causing or having Septic tank problems.
What about Eastern Europe? Rural Spain, their systems are less than desirable.
