Felt so sorry for that Australian on the RTE news. He must typify the frustrations felt by real paying tourists. Speaking plainly like all good Australians must, he said he was not happy that Dublin was closed.
Tourists complain Ireland closed. Queen gets pint Guinness
"She is buggering my holiday up, everything is closed" Said the Australian Tourist to Ireland. He had wanted to visit the Guinness storehouse yesterday but he can't this week because the authorities have closed Dublin down to tourists. Was there really a need to close all of tourist Dublin down every day for one person.
Queen Elizabeth II of England and the Duke of Edinburgh receiving a pint of Guinness from Fergal Murray at the Guinness Storehouse during the second day of her State visit to Ireland
The Duke of Edinburgh refuses even a sip and laughs as he walks away from the full pint on the bar. Neither he nor Queen Elizabeth II of England even took a sip of the perfect pint of Guinness. Another miss fire for the tourist hopes. Not exactly the image they had presumed.
The English Queen and especially that daft old man was very rude if you ask me, several US Presidents have taken a drink from their Irish hosts. If the genuinely most powerful people in the world can take a polite sip of a pint of Guinness, why can't they. They must really think they are something special, how sad. With all the fuss made over them, the place closed especially for them, their attitude really stinks.
I think the images of the visit of the Queen of England will send mixed messages to the world. Viewers can't help but notice the emptied streets, the barricades and thousands of police and security. Those who said the visit was premature have been proven right. It is not the right time, not if this security level needs to be put in place. It is more like a North Korean experience
Just noticed negative reports in the UK press which do not look promising for even the most optimistic tourist touts. How exactly are most of these images going to encourage more tourists. Brian was right the millions who come to Ireland from UK destinations, most of them are Irish and will come here regardless. Immoral waste of money.
Some Irish residents have complained that they are being kept so far away from the visiting Royals because of security fears.
People were not allowed to line the streets and there were no flags, banners and few cheers as they were driven through.
Cecilia Travers said: 'Isn't it awful disappointing. It must be awful for them in the car with no-one on the streets. It's very sad.'
Maura Monks added: 'I've always had great respect for her. I think she's a fantastic woman but I'm very disappointed. Despondent.'
Around a dozen people were behind crash barriers outside the Guinness building, where the streets were also eerily quiet.
