As if Fergal Keane's glossed over history of Ireland was not a blatant and timely attempt at pacifying the Irish mindset. Fergal Keane encouraging the Irish to question even their right to oppose the visit of the British Queen, being the only credible aim.
Then 'What Have the Brits Ever Done For Us'? by RTE most certainly is.
Timed to catch as many as possible, to dull the senses and morals.
The so called historian, Roy British-to-the-Bone Foster, once again at the fore, no surprise there. The British honored revisionist historian- who clearly imagines revision a one way street - who has done sterling service for his nation - the UK. intellect-ing his bias to the gullable and ignorant.
The RTE guff.
What Have the Brits Ever Done For Us? is an authored documentary which will highlight the uniquely complex relationship between Ireland and its closest neighbour in a provocative, entertaining and intelligent way.
The relationship between Ireland and Britain is a long one. It's also a very tricky one. While acknowledging this, the programme shines a light on our national blind spot when it comes to our relationship with Britain and the influence it has had on our development as a society and country.
The programme features a smart, entertaining line-up of contributors from historians, economists, sociologists, journalists and comedians to specialists in a range of fields from food, to fashion, architecture and music and will explore the uncomfortable truth about the positive influence the British Empire has had on us - whether we like it or not!'
Contributors include: Diarmaid Ferriter, Declan Kiberd, Justine McCarthy, Roy Foster, Alan Stanford, Manchan Magan, Sinead Gleeson, Matt Copper, and Susan McKay.
There will be the crafted wordsmith attempt at making you conclude that there is no bias, aim or agenda involved.
That this RTE show is not essentially for the benefit of the British monarchy.
RTE Keeping it simple.
Prime example of revisionism just now about Irish emigrants to the UK - the remark - "of course the UK was not perfect - the Irish emigrant may have faced some racism of course".
May have!
The fact was anti Irish racism was systemic in Britain.
Mocking the Irish was a British past time, it was their central so called comedy theme, this extreme and overt racism was encouraged by the BBC and ITV, and it was sanctioned and subliminally approved of by Westminster.
Paddy jokes were not funny, and they were not supposed to be charming tales, Paddy Jokes were demeaning, cruel and racist. They actively encouraged the ignorance of and hatred and violence against Irish people.
The national joke on British tv, posters telling the Irish not welcome were around long after the general population of USA thought it no longer acceptable to remark similar to African Americans.
The revisionist RTE working to BBC standards, is trying to convince you it was us the Irish at fault, not them. We have it all wrong, we should bow before the English monarchy, respect the sectarian bigot monarchy that has made fortunes from every crime imaginable against the Irish and other colonized natives.
The fact was - English / British aristocracy exploited the native Irish, just as they did native American or African or Asian. All we the native majority were ever good for was supplying their military. Even the British army in Ireland were mostly Irish, conscripts and volunteers, and were so throughout history.
The poor Irish joined their colonial masters military, just as the natives in the new Iraq does today. Broken and bombed Iraq, note how the poorest, the majority, line up to join the police and army.
This is a feature of every defeated native majority, it is the cynical abuse of humans by those in power.
The exploitation of Ireland and the Irish was most obvious during the famine, when Westminster watched us starve because of their laws.
The obvious poverty in modern Dublin, as bad as we think we may be today, what Westminster oversaw was criminal.
Ireland under British occupation was a poor place for the common Irish, Dublin was effectively a brothel. The red light district of Europe, providing outlets for the British barracks, again manned mostly by the poor Irish.
How about we really show maturity, by stating what is obvious and needs no re writing. No great thinking.
The Irish do not have serious issues with any race, we have nothing against the English or British. We have so much in common. Our problem is that evil monarchy.
And where is the other side of the story!
Not all English or British fit the ridiculous stereotype implied.
In fact millions of their millions are every bit as Irish an any in Ireland, mostly labour supporting and distinctly cool on so called Royalty.
Even without the millions of Irish-British for want of better racial description. Not every English or British sings God save the Queen.
Most of us Irish have much in common with the English and British Republicans. We should honor the British Refusniks, not a exploiting monarchy.
We need not think have we got it wrong being Republicans. Or accept that our opposition to monarchy is naive or intolerant.
Most of the world agrees with us.
What Have the Brits Ever Done For Us?
Individuals helped provide some of our greatest assets, Political Republicans and socialism, Anti Monarchists to name some.
Factually the British never gave us anything specific. Think of a feature or cultural aspect we or they consider as British, and then try and rule out the actual origin as either the United States or France, or some more ancient nation state, Greece or Rome.
Irish people only dislike the corruption of Westminster, who rooted political corruption here. We dislike the so called Royals, who rooted and grew the cynical divisions of the native Irish, for their own gain.
Stating that Royalty is obscene and perverse, that is maturity in 2012.
