If, this survey is correct, then it could explain why we Irish have been so apathetic as a nation of people.
The Greeks and almost every other nation could not work out how the Irish just sat back as they got so badly beaten up.
We are being shafted left right and center by corruption and cronyism in every important aspect of Irish public life.
And we as a nation have as a collective sat back and done absolutely nothing about it.
The Irish are optimistic and satisfied living among greed and corruption. logical conclusion of Gallup Survey
Told what to do, bullied and bribed, lied to, and we just wait and hope for someone else to take action, take all the risk on our behalf. Told we are going to be shafted on behalf of Billionaires and all the Irish do is wonder what time, it might conflict with TV.
Rather than collectively work and make sacrifice to make a better life for all of our children, we place our desires for change in celebrity complainers.
Ireland the land of no reality but all the consequences.
The Irish have become such a apathetic race of people, it defies all logic. More genuinely concerned with Manchester United or Liverpool, Celebrity chef or X-Factor. Mindless with not a notable collective concern of any note for community, local or national.
Are the Irish people really optimistic and satisfied?
Maybe they are not so much optimistic or satisfied as they are shallow and indifferent. Apathetic.
You said it more American than the Americans.
Ireland.
You work it out.
Optimistic and satisfied.
The most expensive bank bail out for corruption in the world.
Schools and Hospitals forced to cutback.
The old and young made pay for white collar criminals
And the Irish are surveyed as optimistic and satisfied!
Or has Gallup not factored in Apathy Ireland and the apathetic Irish.
Definition of Apathetic
having or showing little or no feeling or emotion : spiritless
having little or no interest or concern : indifferent
Spiritless and gutless maybe going too far, but apathetic is sadly a good description about the majority of Irish.
Irish people optimistic and satisfied survey
Irish people rate themselves among the most fulfilled and optimistic in the world, according to a new global survey.
Despite the fallout of the recession, the Gallup global wellbeing survey for 2010 ranks Ireland 10th in the world among those citizens who regard themselves as thriving.
The result of the Gallup Global Wellbeing survey is a surprise as recriminations since the collapse of the Celtic Tiger continue.
Nearly two thirds of Irish people rate themselves as thriving, more than one third struggling, but only 1% say they are suffering.
The Irish survey took place in May and June last year before the EU-IMF bailout and the tax changes that came into force in the January budget.
Nevertheless, we're still happier than our Euro neighbours....
In booming Germany, just 44% of people rated themselves as thriving, slightly ahead of France at 42%.
Ireland is also ahead of the US and the United Kingdom , which had similar boom-and-bust housing markets.
Rather than collectively work and make sacrifice to make a better life for all of our children, we place our desires for change in celebrity complainers.
Ireland the land of no reality but all the consequences.
The Irish have become such a apathetic race of people, it defies all logic.
