Happy new year Ireland 2011. Irish New Year resolutions.

Let us wish that next year is a better one for Ireland and the Irish.
In 2011 we Irish have a lot of problems to work out.
As current matters exist, future years may sadly prove that Ireland's financial mess, was not our most concerning problem.
What is left of our distinct culture, any meaningful Irish identity, is also heading for bankruptcy.
Irish New Year resolutions
The similarities in the difficulties facing both Irish culture and Ireland's economics are striking.
Ireland has some pockets of great economic wealth, but many more areas are economically broken. Thankfully, we have a remedy, we can put our economics in fair order, if we want to. We can all work harder, most can spend less, some can save more, to correct out economic ills. Those who are able to do more, will need to assist those who can't.
Culturally we Irish are in a similar poor shape. We have some areas of cultural excellence, but many more areas have little or no distinct Irish culture, often not even aspiring to.
Unfortunately we can't treat our culture with the same easy to make prescription.
Before the dawn of 2011, Ireland has become one of the most culturally shallow nations on earth. In Europe, Ireland ranks only behind the UK, in civic pride or apathy in cultural poverty.
We are both, Ireland and the UK, apathetic nations, generally ignorant and vulgar in comparison to most of Europe.
2011
Aside of economics, what is the average Irish person concerned with?
It should be the state of our society, the fracturing of social and family structures. But it isn't.
The Irish are more concerned with The X-Factor or Big brother, The Irish sun, the Irish star, the Irish mail. Man U or Celtic.
The reality, the current state of the Irish cultural identity is extremely sad.
A nation that once produced so much rich culture and scholars, now produces only cynics in any reliable quantity.
Unfortunately, even the cynic Ireland generally produces, is not the informing or enlightening type, is of little if any quality or use. We are producing the sort of cynic who rises for no other purpose than personal issue or spite.
Happy new year, should amount to more than what is on the box, and the price of intoxication.
Happy New Year to all on here, especially those who at least try to show that Ireland has some aspects of distinct culture left to protect.
