Sceala Irish Craic Forum Discussion:     Scottish sex offender missing in Ireland, again.

"One of the weaknesses we would identify at the moment is that in the Irish Republic we don't have quite the same management arrangements for sex offenders while in Northern Ireland we have very strict arrangements for both the assessment and management of sex offenders."
Colin Reid of the NSPCC.

Very strict?
They have allowed the same highest risk category child abuser, to escape twice..

Police searching for sex offender
Police are looking for a convicted sex offender who has gone missing while on probation.
Paul Hunter Redpath has not been seen since leaving approved accommodation.
Police have not said how long Redpath, who is known to abuse alcohol and is considered to pose a serious risk to vulnerable children, has been missing.
He was at the centre of a similar operation in 2006 after breaching the conditions of his probation and was later rearrested in Dublin.
Redpath, 37, is described as 6ft 1in tall, of slim build with dark spiked hair. He has blue eyes, a fair complexion and speaks with a Scottish accent.
He has a piercing in his left eyebrow and when last seen was wearing jeans and a cream t-shirt with writing on the front.
Redpath, who is originally from Stranraer, was convicted of offences against two girls in 2005 and sentenced to three years in prison.
A police spokeswoman said the public should not approach him and should contact them immediately if they believe they have information as to his whereabouts.
"The PSNI are asking him to surrender himself to police," she added.

Police renew sex offender warning
Police are asking for vigilance as the search continues for missing sex offender Paul Hunter Redpath.
Redpath, 35, from Stranraer, is said to pose a major threat to children and young people, particularly when he has been drinking alcohol.
He was released from prison earlier this week and went missing from his approved accommodation.
It is believed detectives are watching the Stranraer port, as police warned he could be anywhere in the UK or Ireland.

Redpath served half of a three-year sentence for offences against a girl aged under 14.
Police said Redpath failed to comply with his probation conditions and urged him to give himself up. They have warned the public not to approach him.

Redpath was jailed for a total of three years for indecent assault and unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under 14.
He was also given a three-year probation term, ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for life and disqualified indefinitely from working with children.
There are certain features associated with this case where we think he poses a greater risk when he is using, or abusing, alcohol
Chief Superintendent Andy Baillie

Redpath is described as 6ft 2ins tall, thin, with blue eyes and a fair complexion.
PSNI Chief Superintendent Andy Baillie said he posed a major risk to children in particular.
"He is categorised as a 'level three', which is the highest level of risk," he said.
"There are certain features associated with this case where we think he poses a greater risk when he is using, or abusing, alcohol."
The former head of the Probation Service in Northern Ireland, Breidge Gadd, said a number of police forces would be actively looking out for him.

"If he is spotted he would be immediately arrested and then he can be brought back into custody and would appear before a court again for breach of the conditions of his probation order," she said.
"Possibly five or 10 years ago the police may not have issued this sort of general warning.
"But nowadays with the increased interest in, the increased anxiety about any sort of sex offender, they are more likely to do this in case they are accused of not warning the public if anything went wrong."
