Sceala Irish Craic Forum Discussion:     Political choices in Ireland

In Ireland we have democracy ...but do we have a choice ...do we have real alternatives to vote for.
In Ireland we have a ....most urgent need for a political leader who is ....brave and determined and honest ...intelligent and charismatic.
It is quite clear that currently ...we do not have such a leading political candidate in Ireland.
Only when we do have such a leader ...can we hope for the end of cozy corrupt politics.

€192,500 grants for parliamentary society
The group set up for former TDs and Senators to safeguard their pension rights and other entitlements has received State grants of just under €200,000 in the last four years.
The Irish Parliamentary Society provides support and assistance to former members of the House, as well maintaining links between past and present parliamentarians.
Documents released to RTÉ News under the Freedom of Information Act show that the organisation got €192,500 since 2004.
They also show that no grants were paid to the society in 2009 because the money in its accounts exceeded its financial needs for a year's work.
However, according to the body who run Leinster House, the grants could become payable if the society's financial position deteriorates significantly.
The society is also financed through annual subscriptions from members and is part of the European Association of Former Parliamentarians.
