So, what are yer plans for our holiday this year?
Himself and I will go to Chicago's Southside Irish parade.
We meet a group at a place in Frankfort, IL called Galway Tribes Pub & Ale House at 7:30 am for a breakfast buffet. Bus then takes us to the Beverly neighborhood where we will base ourselves out of the restaurant managers house. It is about 3 blocks from the parade route. He offered it as a place to go back to in order to warm up or use the facilities. That's a PLUS! Most stores/pubs close their bathrooms to parade goers. Our eldest lad Daniel has stopped going because of this very reason. Anyway, they'll have free beer on the bus and a coupon for a pint when we return to the restaurant. In addition to that, Brendan Loughrey, an Irish musician & singer is set to play from 4:00-7:00 pm. So we will stay there and then is when I'll have me annual corned beef & cabbage dinner. They have GREAT food at this place! I've even got me Irish get up all planned. Just this past week Harry's sister , Theresa gave me his Mother's fur-look coat. Not the real thing -TG -they could never have afforded one anyway. It is in wonderful shape and she said that she wanted me to have it because I was the only one she could imagine would actually wear it. She's right! I will indeed! I even have a picture of their Mom, Bonita (Keller) O'Connor wearing it. I was so honored. Out of everyone in their family all these years and she gave it to me. I will wear it with pride and honor. Everyone loved their Ma - Bon as they all called her. Unfortunately, she died the year before Harry and I started dating, so I never got to know her. Well, St. Patrick's Day was HER day. In honor of that I will wear the coat to the parade Sunday. I also have a kelly green fur lined cowboy style hat with a feather boa to match. They even light up! Then there are the sparkly rimmed green glasses -compliments of Theresa. She also gave us beer-glass shaped glasses that Harry will wear. We definitely intend to get into the spirit of things! Kodak moments! So can't wait! If you watch Chicago's parade this Sunday - watch for us! Ha! Course, everyone looks the same really.
Then on Tuesday, we will go with more of the O'Connor clan to Chicago Dough in Bourbonnais, IL. YES -it is a pizza place but, what the heck. Tis an Irish spirit wherever we go! These people love when we come because we always have fun. We share our goodies with them, as we always bring irish decorated cakes/cupcakes plus have the music & sing.
I've already sent out my St. Patrick's Day cards, so that is done.
I have a shamrock on me computer at work. I have irish decorated cookies to get to the grandkids. I am so ready - BRING IT ON!
