£5,000 reward for Burnfoot laptop

By Staff reporter
Callous and heartless burglars who broke into a Burnfoot man's home while he slept on Thursday night or the early hours of Friday morning, stole two laptop computers and an iPod, one of which contained irreplaceable files which he uses in connection with his work.
And, in an effort to apprehend the burglars, or at least get his laptops back, the man has offered a reward of £5,000 sterling.
John Harrigan, a construction manager, who lives in the townland of Crislamore, a short distance outside the village, is not sure what time the burglary took place as he slept through the entire episode and only discovered the computers were gone when he woke on Friday morning around 7 am.
He said:“I don’t know what time the break-in took place as I slept through the whole thing. They must have drilled the locks to get into the house and they must have been very quiet as I did not hear a thing. These people seem to know what they are at and are very professional, if that is the correct word to use. The documents on the laptop are absolutely no use to anyone but myself and they are absolutely irreplaceable. I can never replace those files or folders,” he said.
One of the laptops which were stolen and the one most important to John, is a black-and-silver Dell XPS with finger-print recognition.
“When I woke up I discovered that the place had been ransacked. I was going to work and when I went to lift the laptop I discovered it was gone along with another one and the iPod. I notified the Gardai immediately. That laptop is priceless to me. I have years of work on it. It is absolutely useless to anyone else as it is a finger-print recognition model and no one can do anything with it except myself. I am offering a reward of £5,000 pounds sterling for its safe return,” he stated.
There have been a spate of what are termed “creeping burglaries” around the Inishowen area over the past few weeks and Gardai believe this latest burglary fits into this mode.
They ask anyone who has any information about the burglary from John Harrigan’s home to get in touch with them at Burnfoot Garda Station, telephone
