Maggie a Irish Orangutan is recovering after going on the run at Dublin Zoo.
Maggie made her bold bid for freedom yesterday afternoon after 24 years in captivity.
They believe Maggie escaped because she was looking for a mate.
Dublin Zoo is stressing that at no stage were visitors in any danger during the drama.
Zookeepers believe she made a long stretch for branches on the other side of a moat surrounding her enclosure, grabbed a wall and climbed over.
She then made her way past enclosures holding goats and snow leopards.
She was eventually spotted by a group of schoolchildren on top of the tiger compound, about 60 metres away.
Zookeepers managed to confront Maggie and shoot her with a tranquilliser dart gun.
Dublin Zoo Orangutans
A visitor described Dublin Zoo featuring the most active monkeys they have ever seen.
The orangutans, although not known for their lively antics, were quite busy. They worked very deliberately to destroy and/or dismantle the equipment set up for them (ropes and hooks to hold the ropes). This one ponderously attempted a seemingly simple acrobatic manoeuver and failed, recovering with a somersault at the end.

The Alliance for Animal Rights (AFAR) has said it is saddened to hear an orangutan tried to escape from its enclosure at Dublin Zoo earlier this week.
The AFAR claims the animal was 'understandably frustrated'.
Dublin Zoo has rejected the criticism, describing its animals as healthy and active. It says escapes are very rare.
