Delegates are gather for the Sinn Fein Ard Fheis in Dublin
Over 2,000 Sinn Fein supporters are in Dublin today for the party's annual Ard Fheis. The main theme of this year's event is Unity, Prosperity, and Equality.
The key debate this evening centres on the Lisbon Treaty, which is being opposed by Sinn Fein.
Sinn Fein’s annual conference will take place against the backdrop of the party’s participation in government in the north of Ireland but disappointing performance in the Irish Republic’s General Election last year.
Stormont Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness will brief delegates on his work in the power sharing executive alongside Ian Paisley and the party’s campaign for Irish reunification.
Raymond McCord
The father of a man murdered by a British loyalist terrorists who were also police informers will today become the first person from the British unionist tradition to address Sinn Féin’s annual conference.
Raymond McCord, whose son also called Raymond was murdered by the Loyal to the British Union terrorist Ulster Volunteer Force, will address Sinn Fein members in Dublin on the issue of security force collusion.
Last year a report by Nuala O’Loan, the former Northern Police Ombudsman, alleged that Royal Ulster Constabulary Special Branch officers were running informers in the gang based in north Belfast and that they allowed them to kill over a dozen people including Raymond McCord Junior.
