Adamstown 21st century town Ireland
With the main Dublin overspill towns now full ...towns such as Navan to the North ...and Wicklow to the South ...now urban sprawls linked by traffic jams ....something has to change.
The Adamstown project is seen as the future of Irish towns ...a good and exciting place to live in modern Ireland.
The designs of Irish town planners.

New 1.5bn 'designer' town hailed as urban benchmark
Treacy Hogan Environment Correspondent
The first new 'designer' Irish town to be built this century at a cost of 1.5bn was unveiled yesterday, and it is set to be the size of Dundalk or Drogheda.
Developers have vowed that the town centre of Adamstown, unveiled yesterday, will set a new benchmark for urban planning in Europe.
The west Dublin town, which is located not far from the N4 and the M50, will have more than 10,000 new homes and ultimately a population of over 30,000 when finished.
Concerns had been raised about the impact of so many extra commuters pouring on to the already gridlocked N4 and the notorious M50, also nearby.
Planners insisted that the public transport be provided first -- Taoiseach Bertie Ahern opened the Adamstown rail station last year. Schools are also in place.
The next phase involves more homes as well as the town centre which features a shared place of worship, cinema, health centre, library, a place for young people to hang out, offices and shops for 2,500 workers.
Developers Castlethorn Construction yesterday applied to South Dublin County Council for planning permission to build the town centre, to be known as Adamstown Central.
However, as the 20-acre site is in a strategic development zone for which a development templatehas already been approved, the application will be processed via a newfast-track system.
Feature
Adamstown Central is one of the largest ever mixed-use planning applications in the history of the State.
Adamstown will feature a Community Exhibition Centre, community meeting rooms and a youth cafe.
One of the inspirations behind the new civic centre is the "Ideas Store" concept pioneered by Tower Hamlets Council in London.
Its library building is more than just a library or a place of learning -- it also offers a wide range of adult education classes, career support, training, a creche, meeting areas and arts and leisure pursuits.
The plan was created over a three-year period by a design team of unprecedented scale, led by seven architectural practices supported by 55 professional consultancies, including movement consultants, colourists, lighting designers, wind consultants, landscape architects and engineers.
The team's brief was to "reconcile the social, environmental and commercial considerations of 21st-century urban living while creating a unique place of distinction in the European built environment".
The town centre will also incorporate 60 shops and restaurants, cafes and bars, an eight-screen cinema and 900 apartments.
Car parking will be entirely underground on one level, facilitating a pedestrian-friendly, traffic-free environment.
The European-inspired buildings have been designed to achieve at least a 40pc energy saving compared to current building regulation standards.
Once built, the reduction in CO2 emissions is estimated to be about 1,750 tonnes per year which is equivalent to the heating energy required to heat 1,000 homes.
During the construction stage, Castlethorn says that it will save another 7,300 tonnes of CO2 through the use of low-carbon concrete.

I have had friends who live near Adamstown talk of it as ....something between Mosney and Moscow ...Irish dry humour.
I view the plans positively .... the planners have taken people ...and not just profit into account.
Any thoughts on this ...new Ireland.
