Darlenejoy - why God put all those food laws in the OT.
Please could you explain what laws and what OT means.

Oops just saw this Irishangela...

Food laws is a term to describe that God made guidelines for His people to follow of what they were to eat and not eat... the purpose of course is for health... what it ends up boiling down to is that the animals that have more of a vegetarian diet and have specials digestive tracts are cleaner internally thereby providing healthier meat that can be eaten with less health ramifications.

Food laws or dietary laws is just the term I used..

OT = Old Testament...the food guidelines are in the Old Testament of the bible...that is why many people today who believe themselves to be followers of the bible also believe that this no longer applies to us because they think that we are only to live according to what is in the New Testament... I do not believe that...I believe that what is stated in the Old Testament was put there because of His love for us and was giving us guidelines to live a happier, healthier, and better life...

the simple guidelines were to eat four footed creatures that must both chew a cud and have split hooves...

fish - have to have both fins and scales...anything else in the water (fresh or salt) would not be called food but an unclean animal...this is because they eat a diet of a scavenger.

fowls - those that forage as they are more of a vegetarian diet... (not scavengers or predators)

All other animals are animals...not food...or were not intended to be food... it would be like considering eating a vulture or skunk... or a rat... etc.... but the world early on became accustomed to eating animals with filthier diets and so it is mentally acceptable to most...like pigs... rabbits... etc...

Hope this clears it up sorry about the abbreviations... and thanks for asking...

If you want to read them for yourself, it is in various places but you could start in Levitcus Chapters 11 and 20 and much in between but if you start in these two, it will lead you to more...

Duet 14 also ( I think)
