I as a child always heard my Dad say he loved the middle of September , where there was a huge harvest moon , the farmers had more time to relax ..well a bit , the dances were getting prepared for , and the crops were all near in , can you imagine in that day in that age , all they had was a brief time to relax , to court , to chase there sweetheart , no market days , or cattle to sell , just the harvest ...and the chasing of a young lass , no meeting in a pub ..just the dancing and the courting , im sure it was so much more excieting , well the storys ive heard lead me to belive so , maybe it wasent just the rich ...who had comeing out parties , for I suspect Ireland may have invented those ..you came of a certain age , and you were allowed to go to dances , with your brother and usually an auld Aunt in toe ...God can you imagine , but from my recolection , the Aunties found there own amusement , in my Dads day , you walked miles to see some lady home from a dance , and that could be a promise of marrage , you would meet again , but not many times , to much work to see too , im sure there were other times when youd meet someone with no intension but a kiss and cuddle , dont know what this would be called ...A heathen meeting ...lol , or a narrow escape , looking back is good , and deep down nothing really has changed , we call it different words ...suppose im saying , one way or another we are all the same us Irish , some shame us ...some love us ...but no one on earth can deny us .....
