Northern Business leaders desire a united Ireland

the north of Ireland's political leaders hope to convince the President of the European Commission to allow a single Irish Corporation Tax rate. Currently Corporation Tax rate in the Republic is 12.5%, but in the north of Ireland, the rate is 28%.
All the North's parties are campaigning for a rate in the North similar to the regime south of the border. Yesterday, the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern said he supports the idea of a Corporation Tax reduction for the north of Ireland as it could make a real difference. Last Friday, Chairman of the Independent Newspaper group, Sir Anthony O'Reilly, again aired his support for a 12.5% rate throughout the island. The Taoiseach said radical and innovative moves are needed to transform the North's economy.
However, Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown fears demands from Scotland and Wales, and poor regions of England if the north of Ireland gets special treatment.
