Blinded by the light I am
Yes I am
Of Irish boys, I am a fan

Long as they stand taller than I
Blonde hair or brown and cute as pie

Never went out with an Eye-talian boy
Much to my grandmother’s lack of joy

With a sparkle in their eyes they had
The Irish boys mix good and bad

Couldn’t understand why they held such sway
Until I made it back out this way.

Rediscovered a land I thought I’d lost
A language, a time, the past and the cost

Days of old with music and light
Follow generations of strife and fight

An Irish soul is an old one I know
Faith and love we can’t seem to let go

Oceans crash on Donegal shores
Below small stone cottages filled with lore

Turf fires burn in a land of green
But it’s a land I have not ever seen

Generation or three has passed since then
Family and life and becoming American

But something calls me, nags me still
Some void that longs to be filled

Be it an Irish voice or an Irish heart
May this young lad know more truth than not

Blonde hair or light brown
With freckles, maybe even a slight frown

Perhaps he will know
About this place I long to go

This land of beauty and amazing light
That shines ‘cross oceans in the dark of night

To be Irish is to know
No matter how far you go
That call that comes to say you’re home.
