Am interested to know who here has been to ND for a visit or a football game. It is a mystic place, the home of the "Fighting Irish" and the crummy mascot, a leprechan (sp). But, all else is glorius. "Experts" have voted its fight song as the best in college history. While games begin usually in early afternoon, I have never been except to get there about 8 in the morning, or so. A visit to the grotto, the cathedral, and just walk the campus. The echo's are there. Statues of past hero types abound. A visit to the bookstore will hold you for a full day, or longer. It is about 3 stories high and besides the class materials, has extensive Irish merchandise and publications of all kinds. My only complaint is that the place has become a little too classy. It costs about $35,000 for tuition now and near 95% of incoming freshmen classes are validictorians, with 4.0 averages. Competition to be admitted is furious. It has only about 8,000 students, total. This place is Irish, however, through and through. Getting tickets to a game is a crapshoot. Football season ticket holders, even if loyal for many years, must contribute hundreds of dollars each year just to remain ticket holders, at about $50 per game per person. Last year I obtained 4 tickets. Hee. My brother-in-law got them from a person in Arizona who had friends in the State of Washington (who ND was to play) but could not make the game. It was cloak and dagger it was. Tailgaiting? One has not been until the sight is seen. With the games on Saturday, a special lot is available for the super fans (and filthy rich) who pull in with $500,000+ motor homes on Wednesday even, who party up to the game time (and some just watch on tv). If only they had a better team lately. I pin my hopes this year on its young quarter back: Brady Quinn from Dublin, Ohio, whose h.s. school team was named the "Shamrocks"! My sister is a ticket taker at all the home games. She thinks she is a rock star for doing so. Go Blue and Gold!
