Ireland tops world 'quality of life' survey
According to a new study by the Economist magazine, Ireland has the best quality of life in the world, ranking top of the list of 111 countries surveyed in the "life satisfaction" survey. The study combined a series of quality-of-life measures, from income per capita to church attendance. Switzerland came in at second place, with the USA, (the second-richest country in the world) placed 13th, while Britain lagged behind at 29th. Even though Ireland has its problems with the weather, traffic, health service and a high cost of living, our number-one ranking was attributed to retaining a strong community and family-based society. Our low unemployment, political freedom and stable family life were also influential factors. Overall, Ireland was found to be less troubled by some of the modern problems of western life, from family breakdown to drink and drug addiction.
