I did it again.
Fell hard.
Then down.
Now out.

Couldn’t think of how to say it
Words failed me then and now
So I told him to go
And now he’s gone

It wasn’t what I planned
Wasn’t what I meant to say
But it was truth
Which isn’t much at the end of the day

I turned into a girl
Rather than a friend
Could’ve pretended forever
But it had to end

Before my heart broke
Before I hated him for it
Before…
Before…
Before it was him who quit.

A pre-emptive strike if you will
Against an end I saw ahead
He doesn’t see me the way I see him
Leading to pain, rejection…so much dread!

So what else could I do?
Nobody answers.
Just want him to be happy.
And, with me, he’s not.

Never thought I’d trust
Not ever again
Certainly not a boy
Who so oddly became my friend

It didn’t happen overnight
But as time passed I found
My trust was for real
Life was better with him around

Can we be friends?
A question posed of my own volition.
The more I thought on it.
The more impossible my position.

Story of my life
Wake up one day
And realize my heart
Has long since been given away

Not that he doesn’t deserve it
But it’s not something I can give again
To someone who cares, yes,
But only wants to be my friend.

So I told him
Sure, we can still be friends
But I can’t give anymore
Of the crazy life inside my head

Story of my life
Wake up one day
And a man for whom you care
Has been sadly …
Very sadly…
Pushed away.
