Save Your Slow Dance For Me
(For Nick)
Life can be heaving the fast beat drives you on
As life’s rushes cause a coursing through your veins adding to the exhilaration
“What did you say”, you yell above the din as the music of life fills your ears
Too busy to hear, think, and can hardly see, reality fades in and out
As you dance madly on.
Much to do in making a life you hurry trying to get somewhere
Fitting in all you can, the best you can
We learn sometimes too late that its not the getting there
The journey of the day is taking you there arriving exactly where you are meant to be
But please, don’t forget to slow down a bit and not dance quite so fast
And save your slow dance for me.
My dear, save your slow dance for me.
My love, my life, as I watch your lightening pace
Clamoring to get there so you can enjoy the harvest of your labors
Your dreams, desires, and aspirations tho’ self imposed and I am proud
Fill your life to the brim and running over with present joy and joy in the making.
But please, don’t forget to slow down a bit and not dance quite so fast
And save your slow dance for me.
My dear, save your slow dance for me.
The pride I feel as I watch you and see a king’s table set before you
I dread the day you look at some of those things and wonder
Are some of these dreams just futility and undue expectations
Then you need to turn your head a little further, let your gaze rest a little further ‘round
You are seen from over here as I am quietly and patiently cheering you on as you reach for the stars.
Yes, tis I who with wisdom watching patiently with respect and awe
Knowing that with all you have you will make it even when things seem for naught
Rearranging, moving forward, then back, then you leap again
To unknown lands spread before you, waiting to be conquered.
But please, don’t forget to slow down a bit and not dance quite so fast
And save your slow dance for me.
My dear, save your slow dance for me.
