Staunton's reign looks over
Steve Staunton's reign as Irish soccer manager is expected to come to an end over the weekend with an emergency meeting of the FAI's board.
McEniff names his Ulster side
Ulster manager Brian McEniff has selected his strongest possible line-up, given injuries and club commitments, for tomorrow's M Donnelly Interprovincial football semi-final against Connacht.
Antrim are the only county not represented in an Ulster starting team that includes four players from Ulster championship runners-up Monaghan, two each from Cavan, Derry, Donegal and 2007 champions Tyrone and one each from Fermanagh, Down and Armagh.
St Patrick's Athletic v Shamrock Rovers
St Patrick's Athletic entertain Shamrock Rovers in the big south Dublin derby at Richmond Park.
Rovers will be looking for a win having been beaten by Drogheda United last time out as they strive to beat Pat's to the UEFA Cup or Intertoto Cup place.
Pat's beat Rovers 2-1 at Richmond Park early in the campaign while the two sides drew 0-0 in July.
Pat's are expecting a large attendance for this attractive fixture and are advising supporters to arrive early. Separate entrances will be available for both sets of fans and all supporters are being asked to follow the instructions of stewards.
Duddy in the dark ahead of Dublin bout
John Duddy has been hit with a second change of opponent for his bout on the Hunky Dorys Fight Night at the National Stadium on Saturday.
The undefeated Derry man will face England's Prince Arron. The regally-named Manchester boxer has recorded ten wins from his 12 professional outings.
Duddy has arrived in Dublin after six weeks intensive training under the watchful eye of veteran handler Don Turner.
'Everything seems to be much smoother this camp,' Duddy explained. 'We had two weeks together in North Carolina before going to the Poconos. In North Carolina, I enjoyed talking with Don and we got to know each other better. I like listening to a man of experience, absorbing his stories and getting valuable tips. The training, too, has been a wee different this time. Our first camp we only had four weeks together, three at camp and the last during fight week.'
