Lost Night on the Floor

I said good-bye, see ya, so long.
Don’t think of you when I wake up anymore
Work all day, go about my life
No longer wanting all of that strife
But when the dark of night falls down
Can’t help but wonder if you are in town
Are you working late or having a drink
Stopping to catch the game or driving around trying not to think
A dear friend asks me why I care
What about you makes it so hard to bear
There is no answer that makes any sense
Your laugh, your voice, conversations in the past tense
Friends I thought we could stay
But I can’t change your past or make it go away
What it is that I want from you
You made your choice not to say or to do
In my dreams, I call your name
Wanting you to save me from this terrible game
Haunted I am by ghosts of my past
When you were around, seemed it wouldn’t last
It wasn’t fair of me to do that to you
But I’m not sorry I expected the truth
Either way, your number is out
Body of flesh and bone no longer counts
Sorry I’m wasting your time with my chatter
So tired, so tired because it just doesn’t matter
You are what you are, and I’m just a fool
For thinking I had answers and knew all the rules
I was on some crazy mission from the stars
Guess I was wrong and put myself out too far
Can’t change what doesn’t want to move on
Anymore than I can get my own past to be gone
There are a million things I could say or do
But I’ll stick with see ya, good-bye, been nice knowing you, too.
