Down many an Irish road I’ve gone
Dreamed oft of the journey made
So many adventures along the road
Missed turns and times waylaid

Winding paths and narrow trails
Tree lined groves just 'round the bend
Hedgerows hiding haunted ruins
Byways leading to dead ends

Down many an Irish road I’ve walked
Whistling happily as I trod
Past castle moats and moors and boats
Exploring the ancient sod

The thoroughfares hold secrets
Along each a story waits
The trick is where to find it
Such is the seanachai’s fate

Down many the twist and Irish turn
My sojourn’s set me free
The old sayin' goes -
Two shorten the road
