A multi-million euro investment by a leading medical
devices company will create 460 skilled jobs in Co
Tipperary.

Local Fianna Fáil candidate Cllr Siobhán Ambrose has described news that global healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson is to create 450 jobs in Cashel as an enormous economic boost for south Tipperary. Cllr Ambrose said senior executives from Johnson & Johnson had visited a number of sites in the Munster area and chose south Tipperary as the ideal investment location.

‘Cordis Corporation - a Johnson & Johnson company- is to establish a state-of-the-art development and manufacturing facility, with the support of IDA Ireland. ‘This is a massive vote of confidence in our county and in south Tipperary in particular. Tipperary’s highly skilled and highly educated workforce, with its access to a good roads and rail network and nearby third-level colleges, is an ideal investment location.

‘It is vital now that we do not let up in our efforts to attract more jobs to south Tipperary. We already have a good employment record with several IDA-supported companies providing high-quality jobs in the area,’ said Cllr Ambrose.

Cordis Corporation is the world’s leading developer and manufacturer of innovative products treating a wide variety of medical problems associated with coronary artery disease. The company expects the new facility will be in operation al by the first half of 2008. The new operation will be located beside the pharmaceutical manufacturing site for Alza - another Johnson & Johnson company and a world-leading manufacturer of drug delivery systems. Cordis Corporation plans to build a new 180,000 sq ft manufacturing facility, a development laboratory and a finished goods testing facility.
