"I'm very happy and I'm lucky in my life. I've had a life of adventure. I've travelled all over the world at other people's expense."
David Norris
Just a reminder to all who are voting.
David Norris is not a genuine socialist, or remotely a genuine man of the Irish people. David Norris is not even especially democratic when its gets personal (see foreign boyfriend and ensuring a Irish citizenship).
David Norris boasting of luxury life at taxpayers expense.
David Norris openly boasted about travelling "all over the world" and being provided with "chauffeur-driven limousines" at the taxpayers' expense, the Herald can reveal.
The controversial senator made the flippant remark about living the diplomatic high life as the economy was crashing in November 2009.
The Joycean scholar smugly joked about his taxpayer-funded trips in an interview with Dublin City University's student radio station, DCUfm.
And Mr Norris also jovially discussed the disability payments he received from Trinity College -- at the same time he was drawing his Seanad salary.

He joked about the day he was called by his Trinity bosses and told he should accept permanent disability benefit.
"I was in hospital in and out for about a year and they discovered that I had a very rare form of hepatitis... which they worked out from my timetable that I probably got from tainted water in Budapest.
"So I always say I had to retire from my drink problem, people look sympathetic and I say yes indeed, if I stuck on the whiskey I would have been alright it was the water that did me in.
"And after a year of this, Trinity called me in and said, 'we can't go on like this you know', I said 'well I couldn't agree with you more, what do you propose?'. They said 'well we rather thought about permanent disability' and I said 'well I love the sound of it but is there a price tag', they said 'well yes', I said 'like what', they said 'well you get a pension', I said 'really, starting when', they said 'basically whenever you sign', I said 'well look what I have in my hand it's called a pen -- goodbye', I was gone, it was great."
Senator Norris also freely discussed his love life with Tevfik Akin -- revealing the pair's confrontation with a group of "Polish people" over their homosexual relationship.
"I'm a professional jay-walker and Tevfik is always kind of wrestling me, had me by the arm and some of the Polish people outside the pub tweaked the fact we were a couple, and started throwing things at us...
"Tevfik was very indignant and he said if they come to our country -- he's got Irish citizenship -- they must accept our ways otherwise we'll have to send them back.

David Norris made Seanad plea on behalf of second lover
Presidential candidate David Norris has become embroiled in a new controversy as reports emerge that he lobbied the Seanad in 2007 in an attempt to get Irish citizenship for his then Algerian boyfriend.
According to reports in The Sun newspaper, the independent senator -- who is already under pressure over letters he wrote seeking clemency for an Israeli boyfriend who had been convicted of statutory rape -- made a plea in the Seanad after his partner, Tevfik Akin, had his citizenship application refused.
In a speech to the Seanad in April 2007, Mr Norris named Mr Akin, who was present in the visitor's gallery at the time, describing him as "a friend of mine and my partner".
Questioning why the Department of Justice had turned down Mr Akin's application, the senator said "The gentleman in the visitors' gallery demands to know who put a black mark against him and what is that black mark.
"I want the officials in the department to know I will pursue this matter to the bitter end.
"Woe for them if they have behaved wrongly because if I cannot get an answer in the Oireachtas, I will make sure in the courts that I get an answer."
Mr Akin arrived in Ireland in 2001 as an asylum seeker. He was eventually granted refugee status and then applied for citizenship in 2004. However, his application was turned down in 2006.
In his speech to the Seanad, Mr Norris accused the department of refusing to grant the application because Mr Akin was Muslim.
"I have asked him at every stage of this process whether there is any matter, including of a criminal nature, of which he is ashamed of... and he has assured me again and again that this is not the case.
"His only crime I can determine is that he is from a Muslim background."
Mr Akin has since been granted citizenship and now works as an attendant in St James's Hospital in Dublin. He and Senator Norris are no longer in a relationship.
